Raingutter Regatta

Welcome to our Raingutter Regatta Page

For the date and time of this years Water World/Raingutter Regatta please log on to Scout Manage and check the pack calander.

We have changed our format from last year and will be using the official BSA sailboat kits. No more sinking aluminum "takeaway" trays (and upset Skippers).

The official BSA sailboat kit consists of a seven-inch (178 mm) long balsa wood hull, a 6-1/2 inch mast, plastic sail, plastic rudder, and metal keel. Within the basic design rules, "Skippers" are free to paint (No water based paint please) and decorate their sailboats as they choose. Modifications for speed include the placement of the keel and rudder and the size, shape and location of the sail.

The seas we will sail on are only 10-foot lengths of raingutter filled with water, and the ships a mere 7 inches long, the race is a very exciting event.

Each boy will build his own boat with supervision and help from parents and leaders. He also provides the wind for the sail with his own lung power. The regatta boat kit, has a pre-shaped balsa hull, metal keel and plastic sail. The hulls are sanded and shaped, and are colorfully painted. The boats race in pairs on raingutter courses propelled by the boys blowing into the sails with a drinking straw.
